Vermont Man Pleads Not Guilty in Theft of Robert Frost Writings


A 42-year-old thrift store employee in Vermont recently pleaded not guilty to theft charges involving letters and holiday cards written by the famous poet Robert Frost. According to police, the employee stole the letters and cards and proceeded to sell them for $20,000. He was arraigned on charges of grand larceny in White River Junction, Vermont, which is located around 100 miles north of Robert Frost’s grave in Bennington, Vermont. 

When a donor mistakenly dropped off the priceless memorabilia at the Listen Community Services thrift store where the man worked, he quickly turned around and sold the correspondence for thousands. Authorities are still investigating the purchaser of the documents, whom they believe may be linked to an illegal trading network for memorabilia. 

Robert Frost memorabilia often sells at high prices at auctions. For example, a 1941 Christmas card signed by the author – containing the poem “I Could Give All to Time” – is currently being offered for $5,999 on eBay by a Las Vegas dealer.
