Woman Charged with Burning Down Historic Cypress Tree also Faces Drug Charges
The woman charged with setting fire to "The Senator," a historic cypress tree in Florida's Seminole County, now faces charges for drug offenses. According to the Orlando Sentinel, these charges are:
- possession of methamphetamine
- intent to sell methamphetamine
When police searched the woman's home, they found meth and a glass pipe. The woman had previously told police she burned down the tree so she could see the drugs she was doing.
At more than 3,500 years old, the Senator had been one of the oldest cypresses in the world.
The woman may face a number of criminal consequences for the drug charges and for burning down the tree.
