Lead Singer of Bauhaus Arrested for DUI

Peter Murphy – best known as the lead singer of Bauhaus, a ‘70s British goth-rock band – was arrested this past Saturday after allegedly rear-ending a vehicle in Glendale, California. After injuring the driver, he fled to Los Angeles, where he was successfully blocked by an eyewitness until police made it to the scene.

The eyewitness followed Murphy in their own vehicle all the way from the accident site in Glendale to the 3400 block of Barham Boulevard in L.A. The witness said he was “afraid [Murphy] would kill someone with his driving.” The injured driver of the Mercedes that Murphy struck was able to take down Murphy’s license plate number before fire personnel took her away from the scene on a gurney.

Murphy denied drinking alcohol, saying he was jet-lagged from a recent overseas flight and had taken his prescription medication for depression, but nothing more. However, police found a small plastic bag of methamphetamine with Murphy in the patrol car, where it appears he tried to discard it. He has been arrested and charged with:

  • DUI
  • Felony hit-and-run
  • Possession of methamphetamine
