Felonies Dismissed in DUI Case Against Doctor
An
Orlando-area neurologist who worked
in the retirement community known as “The Villages” currently faces misdemeanor
charges for DUI and unlawful possession of prescription medication. The Florida
State Attorneys’ Office has dropped the
original felony charges and instead
filed three misdemeanors against the
45-year-old doctor, who was arrested in Fruitland Park.
When officers
witnessed the woman driving down the
wrong lane on a county road, they stopped her and performed a Breathalyzer
test. The test took two readings of her blood-alcohol level at .081% and 0.87% – both above the legal
limit for a driver. The officers also found 251 loose pills in her purse, including hydrocodone (a pain
reliever) and dextroamphetamines (for ADD).
However, the woman
was able to provide proof of her
prescriptions, which led to the drug felony
charges being dropped. The DUI
charge is also now classed as a misdemeanor, since the woman does not have a
lengthy history of reckless driving, and the incident did not coincide with a
serious car accident.
