Falsely Accused Woman Sues Orlando Police

An Orlando woman who spent three months in a Florida jail is now suing the Orlando Police Department for falsely accusing her. The woman was arrested in 2007 and charged with vandalizing a home, but she claims she never committed the misdemeanor.

Her attorneys performed an investigation and discovered that the real vandal’s name was Merline, which is similar to the accused woman’s first name, Malenee. The accused woman was working at a Burger King in the Orlando area at the same time that police claim witnesses placed her at the scene of the crime.

As her attorney points out, innocent people are often convicted of crimes they did not commit, and it is unfortunately rare that the truth is discovered and the false accusations are brought to light. Although Malenee’s charges have been dropped, the attorneys are hoping she will receive compensation for the three months she had to spend in jail, and for the humiliation – in both her personal and public life – of being falsely accused of a crime.

If you have been falsely accused of committing a misdemeanor or felony, please contact our experienced Orlando criminal defense attorneys at The Umansky Law Firm today for a free initial consultation. We can help you get back on solid ground.
