Singer Rick Springfield Arrested on DUI Charge
Rick Springfield, whose hit "Jessie's Girl" has become a classic radio mainstay, was arrested Sunday night in Malibu, California on suspicion of driving under the influence. The 61-year-old was pulled over in his 1963 Corvette around 8:00 pm near Pacific Coast Highway.
According to a spokesperson for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Springfield "made a maneuver away from the light." This maneuver, whatever it was, caused law enforcement to pull him over.
Springfield smelled like alcohol and he was asked to do a breathalyzer test. He allegedly blew a .10. In California, like other states, the legal limit is .08.
Springfield, who was on the soap opera General Hospital, was arrested and taken into the same station Mel Gibson was taken to on his DUI charge in 2006. L.A. County Sheriff's Department says Springfield was released on a $5000 bond after 2:00 am when he sobered up.
Earlier in the day, Springfield was at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books where he talked about his memoir, Late, Late at Night.
