Orlando Police Shut Down Pirate Radio Station

Authorities announced they shut down an Orlando pirate radio station that broadcast information on gang and drug related activity. Two men were arrested.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's office, the station, called "Street Heat," allegedly broadcast advertisements that referenced gangs, gave information on where to buy drugs and solicit prostitution, and offered advice to gang members. One such piece of advice was on how to fold a bandana, or "flag."

The Orange County Sheriff's office's gang unit and the FCC conducted a two week investigation. They found that radio signals were coming from an antenna that had been mounted in the tree of a backyard in an Orlando residence. A cable traced it to the window of a home, and the SWAT team executed a search warrant last Friday. Two men were taken into custody and charged with unauthorized transmission for the pirate radio station and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Due to the Street Heat broadcasts, several people may have found themselves charged with various crimes. Hopefully, you were not one of them.

However, if you are, or if you have been charged with a drug offense or solicitation, and you are in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm.
