Charles Barkley Given Jail Time for DUI

Former NBA star Charles Barkley was ordered to spend ten days in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of DUI on Monday in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, if Barkley completes an alcohol rehab program, the sentence will be cut to five days. Barkley will also have to pay $2000 in fines. Furthermore, he will have to install ignition interlock devices on his vehicles.

Barkley was arrested on New Year's Eve, and was given a blood test for suspicion of driving under the influence after failing the roadside test. The blood test showed his blood-alcohol content level was 0.149, well above the 0.08 limit. At the time, Barkley claimed he ran a stop sign because he was hurrying to meet up with a woman he had recently met.

Just as in Arizona and most of the country, Florida's law states you are over the limit if your blood-alcohol content exceeds 0.08. If it is, you may be arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. If this happens, you will want to talk to someone who knows the law and can help minimize any of the problems that come along from the allegations.

If you are in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, and you have been charged with a DUI, please contact the experienced DUI defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to get the charges reduces or completely thrown out of court.
