Arizona Teens Accused of Pimping
Two 16-year-old Arizona girls have been accused of acting as pimps, and have been arrested on a number of charges. Phoenix police investigated the pair, who allegedly pimped a group of 14- to 17-year-olds from their high school, for five months. The pair also allegedly rented an apartment where the activity took place. The two told girls they allegedly hired that they would make a lot of money and it was better to work for them than it would be if their pimp was a male because they wouldn't get beaten.
One of the teens is charged with one count of child prostitution and three counts of pandering, or serving as a go-between or liaison for sexual purposes. The other teen, and alleged leader, faces nine counts o f child prostitution, two counts of receiving earnings of a prostitute, and one count of pandering. Prosecutors are quick to point out that all the charges are felonies.
One of the girls gave a jailhouse interview with her grandmother, and guardian, in attendance, and has denied pimping or accepting money. She also refused to answer any questions the media had for her about whether she worked as a prostitute or about the apartment. She has said the other girl did have a pimp.
