Actor Ryan O'Neal was ordered to spend the next 18 months in a drug rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine last week. O'Neal and his 23-year-old son, Redmond, were arrested in September after a search of their home in Malibu turned up narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The search was a routine check-up on Redmond after he pleaded guilty last June to drug possession charges. At that time, he was allegedly in possession of heroin and methamphetamine, as well as driving under the influence. He was placed on probation for three years.

Because Ryan O'Neal has no previous record, it was expected that he would be sent to drug rehab. Although the younger O'Neal has a record involving drug possession, he has admitted to a relapse and will most likely see his court-ordered rehab stint extended. Redmond O'Neal will find out his fate in court next week.
