Charge of Theft Dropped

A client was observed hiding a purse and a skirt in her bag while she was shopping at Dillard's in Seminole County. After passing all points of payment in the store, she was then arrested for grand theft.

The Umansky Law Firm attorneys were ultimately able to convince the state to refer this case over to its diversionary program. Because the client was successful in completing this program, the state dismissed the charges against her.

In some cases, witnesses who observe someone shoplifting may base what they've seen on mistakes made by the party in question. Or they may be going off of what video surveillance is showing them without first speaking to the person. What is seen and what is done are sometimes very different things, and sometimes an accusation of shoplifting is simply an innocent mistake. But if one is charged, then this innocent mistake can cause a lifetime of problems.
