Man Arrested for Carjacking While Impersonating Deputy
Chavarria was carrying a handgun and ordered the victim out of the car. After handcuffing him and searching him, Chavarria took the victim’s cash and property, then stole his car and fled the scene.
According to investigators, a vest that matches the victim’s description was stolen from a Sheriff’s Office vehicle about a month ago, along with some guns and other equipment. The victim successfully identified Chavarria from a photo lineup, and a SWAT team proceeded to arrest him after receiving a tip that he was at the Windmill Point apartments on Alafaya Trail. He is being held without bail, and faces several charges, including:
- Aggravated assault with a firearm
- Carjacking
- False imprisonment
- Robbery with a firearm
- Impersonating an officer
