Ronald Cummings Sentenced for Drug Trafficking

Ronald Cummings, father of missing Haleigh Cummings, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay $250,000 in fines for his part for alleged drug trafficking.

Cummings pleaded guilty past month to three counts of trafficking hydrocodone. Two of these counts were later dropped as part of the plea agreement and he has agreed to provide "truthful testimony" in future cases. This includes anything about his missing daughter who disappeared in February 2009 when she was five-years-old.

Misty Croslin, Ronald Cummings, one-time girlfriend/wife was also arraigned on drug trafficking charges in the same case. She pleaded no contest to six counts of trafficking in hydrocodone and two counts of trafficking in oxycodone. She may be going to prison for a very long time.

Croslin was allegedly at home the night Halgeigh disappeared.

For two people who were connected to one of Florida's most recent high-profile missing person cases, one would think these two would not want to maximize further exposure. Because Croslin was home when Haliegh disappeared, she was already being judged by the media and the public. Getting arrested for drug trafficking certainly did not help her case.

If you have been charged with trafficking drugs in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for an initial consultation.

Son Allegedly Used Mom to Cash Stolen Checks in Deltona

A 35-year-old Deltona ex-convict is accused of using his 73-year-old mother to cash checks he had allegedly stolen from several businesses so he could leave the country. He has been charged with organized scheme to defraud and a probation violation.

According to Volusia County deputies, the suspect was stopped last Wednesday and learned he had booked a flight to Puerto Rico. He allegedly told police he knew they were looking for him and he was planning to hide in the jungle to avoid going back to prison. He was on probation for a previous fraud violation.

The suspect also denied he had stolen any checks. He said they were payments for selling cocaine he received from one of the alleged victims of check theft. The check theft victim's wife said her husband was a postal worker who has never even received a speeding ticket.

Police allege the suspect stole the checks from the car wash where he was employed after the victims took their car there. His mother then tried to cash the check at a Compare Supermarket. She was allegedly aware the checks had been stolen and was subsequently arrested. She is charged with grand theft and passing a counterfeit bill. She was released on bail.

The suspect has spent time in prison before on a robbery charge and was on probation after pleading no contest to cocaine possession.

New York Giant WR Facing DUI Charge

Receiver Braylon Edwards of the New York Jets was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence. He was pulled over in Manhattan early in the morning. Edwards' breath test showed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system and was arrested.

According to the media, Edwards was at a charity event earlier in the evening. He got into his SUV with four passengers, including other Jets players. The Jets use a program called Player Protect, which provides 24-hour security and drivers for members of the team. Former law enforcement officers are available with just a phone call, as are SUVs, vans, and limousines.

The DUI charge Edwards faces is a misdemeanor, and the driving while impaired charge is a violation. He is already on probation for a fight he was involved in last year in Cleveland. This could mean a larger problem than just the DUI.

However, Edwards is expected to play in this Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

If you have been charged with a DUI in Orange County or Orlando, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for a free and confidential case consultation today.

Probation Revoked for Actress Lindsay Lohan

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan is unfortunately living up to what the public expects from her: failure. Lohan used Twitter to post that she failed a drug test last week and that she is ready to appear before the judge this week to face the consequences in Los Angeles, California. The judge revoked Lohan's probation and issued an arrest warrant for her, but is holding it until this Friday, September 24, when Lohan is supposed to appear in court.

The judge warned Lohan last month that any setback on her part would mean probable jail time. Lohan's supervised probation required frequent drug testing. It was just last month that she spent just over three weeks in court-ordered rehab after 13 days in jail for a probation violation.

Any drug addict will tell you that three weeks is not nearly enough time to recover. It seems on the outside that since Lohan is a star, she received special treatment, and that has come back to hurt her. Even though she appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday to make fun of her own troubles in a skit, and the world probably laughed, Lohan apparently has serious problems. Acknowledging them now, perhaps because she was caught in a drug test, is good because it shows an iota of maturity on her part.

While an experienced drug offense attorney can work to get you treatment rather than jail time, it is ultimately up to you to decide to take charge of your life and make the right decisions. We are a law firm that believes in second chances, and we truly want you to succeed. It's unlikely that you have the same treatment Lohan does, but you have as much of a chance as she to turn things around and we will work hard to make sure you are treated fairly. A probation violation is a serious event, but we can help you through it.

If you have been charged with violating the terms of your probation in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umanksy Law Firm for a free and confidential case consultation.

Dozens Arrested in New Jersey Bank Fraud Ring

Over 270 local and federal agents from the FBI, IRS, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other agencies were involved in a raid today in two New Jersey counties and Manhattan targeting subjects who allegedly participated in a bank-fraud ring. Authorities allege that the suspects hijacked the identities of overseas workers and bilked millions from several financial institutions. As many as 43 people were arrested.

The alleged scheme stretched from coast to coast and into the South Pacific and used the Social Security numbers of Asian immigrants working in American territories, including Guam. The suspects used the numbers to apply for driver's licenses under fake names and then utilized them to obtain credit cards and bank loans.

The suspects used credit cards obtained to allegedly purchase high-end vehicles, clothing, and liquor. They also allegedly used the cards at their own businesses or shell companies to trick banks to transmit money to them directly. When the bills came, the banks had another person's name on the other side of the globe.

New Jersey authorities say this was a massive case and that the organization was very sophisticated. At least until they got caught.

George Michael Sentenced to Jail for DUI

Pop singer George Michael was sentenced to eight weeks in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of driving under the influence in London today. He was sent to jail immediately after pleading. Michael will also have to pay a fine of 1250 pounds ($1925) and is banned from driving for five years.

Michael would have ordinarily been sentenced to three months, but he was given credit for remorse and for pleading guilty. The leniency of the judge also mentioned Michael's previous two drug charges and said it Michael doesn't seem to have tried to do anything about his addiction to marijuana.

The DUI charge relates to a July 4 accident where Michael crashed into the front of a shop in north London, damaging the front of it. No one was injured, but Michael was allegedly clearly under the influence.

In 2007, Michael was found guilty of "unfit driving through tiredness and prescription medication." He received a two-year driving ban in that case. In 2008, Michael was arrested in a London park and given a warning for possession of a controlled substance.

If you have been charged with drug possession or DUI in Orange County or Orlando, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We offer a free and confidential case consultation.

LA Lakers Player Hit with Domestic Violence Charge

According to Sacramento County, California authorities, a player for the LA Lakers has been charged with suspicion of domestic violence. Deputies allege that they responded to an incomplete 911 call from a home on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, Lakers guard Matt Barnes and a woman who lived with him, were both at the house when authorities arrived. Both had visual injuries, but it was determined by the police that Barnes was the aggressor.

Barnes was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line. He posted $50,000 bail and was released.

Barnes took to Twitter this morning to claim that he was the victim in the alleged domestic violence incident.

No matter how you slice it, domestic violence does not look good to the general public. Whether you’re making millions of dollars on an NBA team or are simply the guy (or girl) in the cubicle, you will be harshly judged if you are accused of domestic violence. If Barnes is telling the truth, and he is the victim, he will still have to answer for the situation. And that’s just part of the pain of being charged with this kind of crime. Imagine having to look your friends, neighbors, and family in the eye after you have been arrested, charged, booked, and then bailed out for domestic violence. How do you explain this to your children?

If you have been charged with domestic violence, one of the first things you need to do is contact an experienced criminal defense attorney. Rather than running to Twitter, FaceBook, or another social media to make claims, let your lawyer do the talking. Damage control begins when your case is accepted.

Those charged with domestic violence in Orange County or Orlando, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida have the experienced domestic violence defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm to turn to. Please contact us if you have been charged with domestic violence for a free and confidential case consultation.

Daytona Beach High School Coach Charged with Solicitation

Maronto High School may have lost their head coach after he was arrested for allegedly soliciting a prostitute over the weekend in Daytona Beach. The high school has not yet made a decision about the coach's future until after they meet with him, which only seems fair.

According to Florida law enforcement, the coach was one of six people arrested conducted in response to citizens and businesses complaining about street-level prostitution. Other charges for the group include solicitation to commit prostitution, cocaine possession and the sale of marijuana. Each of these is a serious charge with fines or jail time.

The coach was released from jail early Sunday morning after posting $500 bail.

Being charged with solicitation can be embarrassing to you and your family, as well as damage your personal and professional reputation. The media loves to jump on these cases and name the names, even before all the evidence is in.

An experienced criminal defense attorney like those at Orlando, Florida's Umansky Law Firm can help to determine if the arrest was legal, if you were informed of your rights to legal representation, and anything the police may have done to compromise your rights.

If you have been charged with solicitation of prostitution in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for an initial case consultation.

T.I. and Wife Face California Marijuana Charge

Rapper T.I. and his wife were arrested after police allegedly smelled marijuana coming from their vehicle late Wednesday night in Los Angeles, California. They were pulled over on Sunset Boulevard and arrested for possession of a controlled substance. It hasn't been announced which specific drug the two allegedly possessed that lead to their arrest.

T.I. was released from a Georgia halfway house in March where he spent three months for federal weapons charges. He spent seven months in an Arkansas federal prison prior to this for the same charge.

While possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor charge in California, the fact that T.I. is still on probation may be a problem for him. However, because the drug charge does not specify which drug the two possessed, things could be much worse for T.I. and his wife.

In Florida, possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor if 20 grams or less, but there is still a chance for a year in jail and a $1000 fine. More than 20 grams is a felony in Florida, and means jail time and a large fine.

If you have been charged with drugs in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm today.
