Step Grandparents of Missing Girl Face Drug Charge
The step-grandparents of missing Haleigh Cummings allegedly bought crack cocaine from an undercover officer and were arrested as part of a Palatka drug sting. They are currently being held without bond at Putnam County Jail.
According to police, the 41-year-old man and 40-year-old woman went to a home to purchase the cocaine. Law enforcement officers believe the two knew they were being followed because they allegedly tossed the crack from their vehicle.
Jail records show that the woman was on probation for forgery and theft at the time of her arrest. The man was on probation for a prescription drug case.
Since the disappearance Haleigh, several members of her family have been arrested in drug sting operations in Putnam and St. Johns counties. Her father was charged with trafficking prescription drugs and reached a plea agreement on three of five charges against him. His ex-wire and her brother were also arrested for the same charges. A 19-year-old cousin pleaded no contest in the same case and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
If you or a family member is facing a drug charge in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umanksy Law Firm for an initial consultation.

Rapper DMX Begins Three Month Jail Sentence
Earl Simmons, also known as the rapper DMX, surrendered to a judge in Los Angeles, California on Monday to begin serving a 90-day sentence for reckless driving. This stems from an original charge in 2002 of drunken driving. The DUI charges were later dismissed.
DMX has had a string of arrests over the last ten years. He served a sentence in Arizona for violating terms of his probation when he failed a drug test. His probation stemmed from the well-publicized raid on his home in 2007 after he was accused of animal cruelty. Twelve emaciated pit bulls were taken from the home and 13 more dead dogs were found on the grounds. DMX wasn't at home during the raid, but police who searched the house allegedly found a weapons cache and drug paraphernalia. He also pled guilty in 2002 to animal cruelty for having neglected pit bulls in his possession.
DMX has been arrested several times for driving violations, including driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, and more. Some of these driving violations were in conjunction with drug offenses. For example, in 2000, when DMX was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in New York, he was also charged with possession of marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, and Percocet. A warrant was then issued for his arrest for failing to appear for his court date.

Paris Hilton, Repeat Offender
The ubiquitous Paris Hilton has turned up in the news over the last few weeks for her marijuana busts overseas. First it was South Africa during the World Cup. Now it's in Corsica. The jet setting party girl had just arrived for an island holiday and was going through customs when she was caught allegedly because she was carrying a small amount of pot.
Apparently, Hilton was arrested for possession, but was let go without charge a short time later when the amount she was allegedly carrying came to less than a gram. In South Africa, Hilton was pulled aside and searched. When customs officials found marijuana, they confiscated and destroyed the drug before sending the heiress on her way.
Marijuana arrests are usually no laughing matter in Florida. Law enforcement takes drug possession seriously. If you are caught with less than a gram, there may be a chance that you will be let go with a warning and having your stash confiscated, but do you want to take that risk?
The experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm have represented numerous individuals who have been charged with drug possession. If you have been arrested for carrying a small amount of marijuana, we may be able to plead down to a simple fine or probation.
If you have been charged with marijuana possession in Orlando, Florida or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for a free consultation.

120 Days for Former Warrant Singer DUI
Jani Lang, the former singer for the '80s hair metal band Warrant (hit song, "Cherry Pie") was sentenced to 120 days in prison after pleading no contest to driving under the influence earlier this year. In May, Lang crashed into a parked car while driving in Woodland Hills, California.
This is the second time in two years Lang has been charged with DUI. The last time he was sentenced to two days in prison and 36 months on probation. He was also ordered to take alcohol classes and had to do community service.
This time, the former hair rocker will do three months, had his license revoked for three years and ordered to complete a 30-month alcohol education program. Lang was ordered to report July 27 for his sentence.
Like Lindsay Lohan who will be spending time in prison beginning today for probation violations, Lang may see his prison sentence cut because of overcrowding in California jails.

Kennedy Wife Facing DUI Charge
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Mary, filed for divorce on May 12. The next evening, law enforcement responded to a 911 call and arrived at the couple's house where an argument was going on about taking their four kids to a carnival. In the domestic incident report, Robert Kennedy told police that his wife was allegedly intoxicated and acting "irrational" so he decided to take the kids to the carnival to get them away from her. Two days later, Mary Kennedy was arrested for driving under the influence in Bedford, New York.
According to Bedford police, Kennedy was arrested around 9:15 after an officer witnessed Kennedy's 2004 Volvo swerving onto the curb. Her speech was allegedly slurred and her blood alcohol content was above the legal limit of 0.08. Kennedy was then arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Kennedy's court date for the DUI charge is next week in Westchester County.
Domestic situations can cause everything around you to spiral out of control. While drinking and driving is certainly no excuse, most people may be able to understand how a fragile emotional state can lead to mistakes that can have serious ramifications.

Alleged Recording of Mel Gibson Admitting Hitting Girlfriend Arises
Mel Gibson has been in the news for the last couple weeks after allegations he went on a profanity-laced tirade against the way his girlfriend dressed and then hit her. The 40-year-old mother of Gibson's eight-month-old baby, Oksana Grigorieva, allegedly recorded conversations with him out of fear for her life.
As a result of the recording, Grigorieva discusses an incident that allegedly occurred in January. At one point she says, "You were hitting a woman with a child in her hands, breaking her teeth, twice in the face. What kind of man is that?" The voice on the other end that is allegedly Gibson responds by telling her she deserved it and then threatens her life.
As a result of this eight-minute recorded conversation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has opened up a domestic violence investigation of Gibson. Also as a result of this recording the William Morris Endeavor talent agency has dropped Gibson after 30 years.
Here is a perfect example of someone who is apparently in the midst of losing everything after just the allegation of domestic violence. It has not been proven, but in the court of public opinion, Gibson is guilty. A previous DUI arrest that turned ugly didn't help, but this is certainly a cautionary tale about what the average person can lose when they are charged with domestic violence.
If you are in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, and have been charged with domestic violence, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We serve clients from around the state of Florida.

Lindsay Lohan to Serve 90 Days in Jail for Probation Violation
Although she'll probably only have to serve 25 percent of her sentence due to prison overcrowding, perpetually troubled actress Lindsay Lohan was ordered to spend 90 days behind bars for a probation violation. Lohan was also ordered to a 90 day in-patient substance abuse program after her jail sentence is over.
Lest we forget, Lohan was sentenced to probation for two 2007 drunken driving cases. In each case, Lohan said others were driving her vehicle. She allegedly repeatedly failed to follow the terms of probation. She failed to appear in court early this year for a mandatory hearing claiming her passport was stolen while in France for the Cannes Film Festival. When photos of her partying later surfaced, the judge was furious. The judge also said Lohan lied when a white powder found in her "favorite pants" belonged to someone else. The powder later tested positive for cocaine.
Lohan was ordered to wear a SCRAM ankle bracelet to test for alcohol, which went off the night she attended the MTV Music Awards. She claims it was an accident.
Though she cried and begged, in the end, it may be the lockdown in-patient program that will be the worst for Lohan. She's lucky to have that. Many people in Florida who are charged with DUI or drug offenses do not get off so easily. And the judges don't take it lightly when even one excuse is given for missing a court date or violating terms of probation.
However, if you find yourself charged with a probation violation in Orange County or Orlando, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm today.

Two People Arrested for Leaving Kids Alone with Crack Cocaine in Apopka
A man and woman were arrested by Apopka police for their part in allegedly leaving two young children home alone with crack cocaine, but no food. The 25-year-old woman is mother to the children and a guard for the state Department of Juvenile Justice. She has been charged with sale or delivery of cocaine, possession of marijuana, child neglect and being an accessory after the fact. The 25-year-old man is the woman's boyfriend and was allegedly on the run for almost two weeks before he was found. He has been charged with possession of cocaine, child neglect and driving with a suspended license.
According to police, the six-year-old son went to a neighbor's house to say he was hungry and alone with his six-month old brother. The neighbor then called police and alleged that the man was a drug dealer. Law enforcement officers allegedly found rock cocaine and a razor blade in the apartment.
The mother denies any drugs were in the apartment and that investigators are wrong. It is her apartment and her boyfriend lives with her. She also denied knowing where her boyfriend was when police were looking for him, but admitted speaking with him on the phone. Apopka police also allege seeing her throw several pieces of crack cocaine in the grass when she got out of the car her boyfriend was driving last week.

Former Melrose Place Actress Charged in DUI Death
Actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by auto after an accident on Sunday, June 27 in Montgomery, New Jersey. Locane-Bovenizer was one of the original cast members of Melrose Place and played opposite Johnny Depp in Cry Baby.
According to law enforcement officers, Locane-Bovenizer was driving her SUV and hit the passenger side of another vehicle just after 9:00pm. A woman was killed and the driver was seriously injured. When police arrived, Locane-Bovenizer admitted having several glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel. She was arrested for drunken driving and taken to the hospital for a cut on her arm.
During the investigation, it was discovered Locane-Bovenizer was involved a hit-and-run just before the fatal accident when she allegedly rear-ended another vehicle at an intersection. She then allegedly fled the scene after the other driver attempted to contact police.
If Locane-Bovenizer is convicted, she faces five to ten years in state prison with 85% of the term served without parole due to New Jersey's No Early Release Act.
